Circle With Slash Through It
A prohibitory symbol, which looks like a circle with a line or slash through it, means that the selected startup disk contains a Mac operating system, but it's not a version or build of macOS that your Mac can use.

- Press and hold the power button on your Mac for up to 10 seconds, until your Mac turns off.
- Turn on your Mac and immediately press and hold Command (⌘) and R to start up from macOS Recovery.
- While in macOS Recovery, use Disk Utility to repair your startup disk.
- If Disk Utility found no errors or repaired all errors, take either of these actions:
My hard drive failed so I replaced it and now when it starts I get a circle with a slash. I have tried to reset the pram holding the Command, option +r+p, I think that was the combination. I was able to hold the option button down at start up and the recovery icon came up. Mac Mini: Mid 2010 or newer. Mac Pro: Mid 2010 or newer. Sierra has a circle with a slash (prohibitory) HELP i tried to install macOs Sierra using an El capitan vmware image, it worked and i got a bootable usb using unibeast, but every time it loads 2/3 of the way the prohibitory sign pops up, I tried to boot in safe mode but it didn't work.
